HoopStars MissionThe HoopStars Basketball program was created to provide a social environment for children and adults with mental and physical challenges to participate on basketball teams in a way that instills a sense of accomplishment, teamwork, and competition, so that they have an opportunity to learn the game, increase physical activity and enhance their self esteem.About HoopStarsIn 1997 HoopStars began with the efforts of five players. The Preston family saw a need for a “Challenger” basketball program. Programs existed for baseball, soccer and other sports but not basketball and a grassroots effort began. With these initial five players the program has grown to over 175 developmentally challenged children and adults to date and is still growing. |
